1. The Club's Spirit
The International Energy Club is a high-trust professional community. The quality of every member's experience depends directly on the quality of every other member's conduct. These Guidelines translate IEC's core values into specific behavioural expectations for community interactions. They are not exhaustive; use professional judgement and ask yourself whether a senior energy executive would be proud to be associated with a given interaction.
2. Professional Conduct
All communications — in forums, deal rooms, messaging, and events — must be professional, factual, and respectful. Critique ideas, not individuals. Disagree constructively with evidence and reasoning. Do not make personal attacks, use insulting language, or attempt to humiliate fellow members. Energy is a sector that crosses national, cultural, religious and political divides; IEC is a space where professionals of all backgrounds collaborate. Culturally insensitive comments are prohibited even where the intent is not malicious.
3. Commercial Conduct
The Marketplace is the designated place for commercial proposals. Do not cold-pitch products, services, or investment opportunities in community forums or private messages without the recipient's prior indication of interest. Sharing relevant case studies, market insights, and thought leadership is encouraged. Disguising advertising as neutral commentary ('astroturfing') is prohibited. Members may disclose their organisation's relevant capabilities in the context of a substantive discussion, provided it is brief and clearly identified as a commercial disclosure.
4. Confidentiality Norms
Treat information shared by other members in private channels, deal rooms, and Chatham House sessions as confidential unless you have explicit permission to share it. Do not screenshot or copy private conversations for external distribution. If you receive information that you believe was shared with you in error, notify the sender and delete it. The Club's value depends on members trusting that their candid views will not be attributed without consent.
5. Content Quality
Forum posts and insights contributions should add genuine value. Share market data, regulatory updates, technical analysis, and deal lessons from real experience. Avoid low-quality filler posts, clickbait headlines, unverified rumours, or recycled press releases. IEC's editorial team may remove posts that do not meet quality standards without notice. Repeat low-quality posting may result in temporary posting restrictions.
